Hudson River

My sweat helps plump red apple orchards grow
Uplifting the indigenous; spurring development

But it also destroys homes, ruining dreams
Those insurance companies can’t rebuild

Causing tears to flow from north to south
As families drown under the Brooklyn Narrows

I will eventually dry out on my clay cheeks
No longer bathing skins or washing shirts

Just transform into a hidden riverbank
Flowing ignorance into the Atlantic
