Review

For over two years I have checked in at the Tony Dapolito Recreational Center in the Greenwich Village for a quick session during lunch or after work. Each time I stroll in, scan my membership card, show my lock and head towards the public high school style changing room. It is a cost effective option ($150 annually) to a major gym during a tough economic time which you should take advantage of if you are on a budget.

The center comes equipped with a dance studio, two basketball courts, an indoor pool, handball courts, a baseball field, indoor track and outdoor pool. It also provides you with two weight rooms, multiple treadmills and various bikes/ stair climbing machines. Apart from the equipment, the staff is visible but not very interactive and most members keep to themselves. I have never used the computer lab but I was told that it has free internet and scheduled Microsoft office classes weekly.

The Tony Dapolito Recreational Center is not a place full of warm smiles, personal televisions or fresh towels but for under $13.00 a month most luxuries can be overlooked. My advice to anyone that’s interested is “Get in, workout and get out”.
